Add File Conversion Option To Google Drive With DriveConverter

Google Drive lets its users decide, at the time of uploading, whether they would like to leave a file as is, or convert it to a different format. However, it would be beneficial to have some kind of file conversion option available in Drive on an ongoing basis. As we are increasingly living in a heterogeneous IT world, where users are becoming more familiar with alternative software that best fits their needs, it is nice to have this kind of option available.

DriveConverter builds on top of Google Drive’s ability to convert uploaded files into Google Docs file formats, and gives you the ability to convert your uploaded files that weren’t created in Drive to a variety of other formats. After the extension is installed, and you reload Drive, you will be able to right-click on a file, select Open with | DriveConverter, and choose the file type you’d like your file to be converted to.

The following file formats are supported:

From: docx, doc, txt, rtf
To: pdf, xml, rtf, doc, docx, html, txt

From: xlx, xlsx
To: pdf, csv, txt, html, xlsx

From: png, jpg, gif, bitmap, tiff
To: png, jpg, gif, bitmap, tiff

From: mp3, mp4, m4a, flac, wav, ogg
To: mp3, mp4, m4a, flac, wav, ogg

Keep in mind, DriveConverter says that they only access files you allow them to, and that all files are expunged after conversion.

DriveConverter is available for free in the Chrome Web Store.
